Trou Aux Biches, Mauritius

Le Palmiste Resort and Spa makes a great by-the-beach base. It dishes up a trio of pools and an outdoor whirlpool, too.

This place has kept its Mauritius roots, with weekly cultural shows and a dinner menu showcasing local cuisine. The decor’s nice and simple – think palm-thatched roofs, teak furniture, and salad-green plants in the spa and restaurant.

Holidays at Le Palmiste Resort and Spa dish up an A-star pool scene, complete with three numbers for swimming, as well as a whirlpool. The hotel gives a big nod to the traditions of Mauritian culture – especially in the restaurant and the weekly entertainment programme, Elsewhere, you’ve got a spa and a few activities, like volleyball and yoga classes.

Two bars and a buffet restaurant make up the food and drink scene. You can dine on local dishes, like grilled fish fillets and smoked marlin soufflé. The poolside bars, meanwhile, serve up home-made rum and fruity cocktails.

Weekly shows shine a spotlight on the culture of Mauritius, and feature traditional clothing and local music. You can also sit back with a drink and watch the sunset from the al fresco seating areas by the pools.

Head to the spa* for some extra downtime. The treatment menu includes massages* that use locally sourced oils, as well as coconut body scrubs* and Indian head massages*.

The Lotus Spa*

The Lotus Spa is the place to be if you need some relaxation. Massages, facials and beauty treatments are on offer. There is also a sauna and steam room.
