17-Day Vietnam & Cambodia Highlights

Day 1: Hanoi Arrival

Activity: Welcome Meeting (6:00 PM) and a Group Welcome Dinner.

Day 2: Hanoi to Halong Bay

Activity: Overnight boat cruise, cave exploring, and kayaking in the bay.

Transport: Private minibus to the coast.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 3: Halong Bay to Hanoi

Activity: Morning cruise and free afternoon in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Transport: Private minibus back to Hanoi; Overnight sleeper train to Hue.

Day 4: Hue Highlights

Activity: Guided tour of the Imperial City (Citadel) and Thien Mu Pagoda.

Transport: Overnight train (arrival) and private vehicle.

Day 5: Hue to Hoi An

Activity: Motorbike tour of rural Hue, visit to a nunnery for lunch, and scenic drive over Hai Van Pass.

Day 6: Hoi An Walking Tour

Activity: Guided walk through the Ancient Town, visiting the Japanese Bridge and historic houses.

Transport: Walking.

Day 7: Hoi An Free Day

Activity: Free time to visit a tailor, head to An Bang beach, or take a cooking class.

Included Meals: Breakfast.

Day 8: Hoi An Free Day

Activity: Another day to explore at your own pace or cycle through the rice paddies.

Day 9: Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh City

Activity: Guided city walk of the Notre Dame Cathedral, Post Office, and War Remnants Museum.

Transport: Flight to Ho Chi Minh City; Private vehicle for transfers.

Day 10: Cu Chi Tunnels & Mekong Delta

Activity: Underground tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels and a local homestay experience in the Delta.

Transport: Private minibus and boat.

Day 11: Mekong Delta to Ho Chi Minh City

Activity: Boat trip through the Delta canals and a visit to a local coconut candy factory.

Day 12: Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh

Activity: Cross the border into Cambodia and a brief orientation walk of the capital.

Transport: Public bus (approx. 7–10 hours).

Activity: Guided tours of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Choeung Ek Killing Fields.

Transport: Private vehicle (Tuk-tuk or van).

Day 14: Phnom Penh to Kampong Thom

Activity: Visit a traditional silk farm and a village lunch hosted by local women.

Day 15: Kampong Thom to Siem Reap

Activity: Visit the ancient ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk and a boat trip to a floating village on Tonle Sap Lake.

HOTELS:
Most of the accommodation on this trip is in hotels (mostly 2 to 3-star). Facilities are often basic, with some properties not having a continuous supply of hot water on occasion. All rooms are either fan cooled or with air conditioning and twin share with private facilities unless stated otherwise in the daily itinerary. Double beds are not widely available in South East Asia.

WINDOWLESS ROOMS:
Some hotels in South East Asia have windowless rooms, or windows that don't necessarily have a view. This is often due to high population density in large cities, however local building standards also do not require rooms to have windows. We do request rooms with windows, however they aren't always available.

DAY ROOMS & EARLY CHECK IN:
Please note in some destinations we will provide use of day rooms. These rooms are provided for shared group use before or after overnight train journeys. We have some days where we arrive at our destination before check in time and a day room is not included. If you have booked a Single Supplement for your trip, it will not apply to these day rooms. Your leader may be able to assist you in booking a room for your sole use (depending on availability) until our regular trip rooms become available for an additional charge. Please talk to your leader at the Welcome Meeting if this is a service you would like to request.
