We rate Flaine’s ski area 5/5 for beginners – the gentle learner slopes are right next to the town, and there are lots of green and blue runs that are ideal for practising what you learnt in the morning. The resort’s known for its Brutalist buildings, and you'll find sculptures by famous artists like Picasso. For one of the best photo opps around, take the main gondola as a foot passenger and see if you can spot the Mont Blanc peak at the top.
